Zambia has one of the largest HIV/AIDS epidemics the world has ever seen. With more than one out of every seven adults (ages 15-49) living with HIV/AIDS, the country has become one of the world’s poorest nations. When we live in a rich country with so many blessings, it is hard to fathom about two-thirds of Zambians live in poverty. Even more astonishing, sixty-four percent (64%) of the population in Zambia is living on less than $1 a day. This epidemic has devastated the Zambian economy on many fronts, namely the health care system, business sectors such as the trucking industry, agricultural, and other industries that rely heavily on human resources.

Children in sub-Sahara Africa account for 90% of all pediatric HIV infections (1.8 million).
There is a generation disappearing in Zambia in a “historical blink.” Grandparents find themselves raising their grandchildren because they have lost their adult children to HIV/AIDS.
Without this generation, who will support the local economy and the local markets? Without this generation, who will fill jobs at local businesses? Without this generation, who will pass on values, knowledge, and traditions from generation to generation in Zambia?
